How can I correct this yellow blonde I've created!?

I bought what I thought was a dye yesterday. My natural hair is mousy grey (I'm 50) and until now I have dyed it dark blond and had streaks put in now and then to brighten it and camouflage the grey I have. I find it also mixes well in general. I had left it for quite a while now and had a dark growth line at the roots, so bought a dye. But it was an intense highlighter (not a dye) and now its all very very blond, but the hair mass (I have thick hair) has a brassy yellowy glow. Its too much for me and has that 'cheap' look of an old aunties hair!!!!. Can I get another dye, a few shades darker, and re dye? (I'm going to get a few shocked looks today I think) I feel I look like Marilyn Monroe gone wrong!! I really have messed up with it!

My advice is to have it done proffesionally. If you put another dye on top it will take on a green tinge if not pre-pigmented.

You run the risk of it looking a whole lot worse

Please, please go and see a hairdresser, salons recieve alot of customers who have tried dying their hair at home with disasterous effects and are very used and skilled/knowledgable at rectifying all sorts

If you keep dying ur hair blondes, Ur gonna fry ur hair! and it could fall off. I'm not trying to scare you but blonde hair dye is verrry! bad for your hair. You have to let your hair rest for about a week and do a deep conditioning before you dye ur hair again!!

try an ASH blonde colour on top........... it should tone it down. I've had the same trouble, and just use semi-permanent colours now (6-8weeks) such as NICE %26amp; EASY.

You can tone it down with a pearly/ash colour, just don't add any silver blue as blue and yellow make green.

Good luck!

Hi,you could try one of the Harmony wash in wash out colours, you may have seen them they are in a triangle shaped box,you can get them in superdrug or most chemists sell them,if you go for maybe an ash blonde this should tone it down a bit or ,just use a toner (same outlets) the toners last a couple of weeks the harmony one will maybe a little more as you have recently bleached your hair,so the colour may "grab" and stay longer but it should get rid of the brassiness until you can get it sorted out.I hope this helps.

I agree with fresky, you should go to a professional and get a consultation done. By trying something again on your own to rectify this you run the risk of further mishaps, in which case you'll have to spend even more to rectify it all and it might become a long process while doing some damage to your hair.

There is a hair product called Touch of silver shampoo.

Very clever stuff.

It disguises yellow pigments in your hair.

Its not all that easy to come by in the shops, but you will find it on eBay.

If you get some, don't be afraid to use it. Its purple in colour.

It wont make your hair purple though.

You just put it into your hair like a shampoo, and leave it for five mins. It works as quick as that.
