Am I odd about my dog?

I have an elder St. Bernard with arthritis. His hair is turning grey and it takes him longer to eat his meals than it used to be. When my precious boy goes to heaven, I want to have him cremated and put him in a spot he loves (kind of like scattering peoples ashes in the ocean or in the mountains). My husband thinks its weird and would rather just dig a hole. He is my first dog and my precious boy and I think he should get the same respect as a human would. Is this weird?

People who really love there animals do tend to think of them as there children. We have to protect them, love them, teach them, feed them, bath them and the list goes on so why no think of them as our babies. I would do for my pets just as I would my children. I do not think you are weird at all. Your husband probably just is not connected the same way. Some men just don閳ユ獩 show emotion that much. A st. Bernard huh? That is one big whole. And a lot of work for the man. He loves you and will want to do what ever it is needed for you to get through your time of morning.

it is deff. not weird. last year my dog died and it was so heartbreaking cause we werent even home. we had him cremated and is sitting ontop of our fireplace. its not weird to cremate your animal, its normal.

goodluck with your dog.

It may be weird but lots of people do it. Check with your vet, s/he will know who to call to make the arrangements. Sounds like your baby is in good hands; until his time comes, enjoy him while you can.

(And does your dear husband realize just how BIG a hole will be needed to bury a Saint Bernard? Tell him the cremation will be a lot easier on his back.)

HUMANS GET BURRIED IN HOLES TOO THAT IS RESPECTFUL.ALL MY PETS ARE BURRIED ON OUR PROPERTY AND I FEEL THEY ARE STILL IN THE FAMILY.

You should do whatever eases your pain. It's a very personal decision, just like dealing with the death of a human family member. Some people prefer a burial, but I like the idea of your best friend's ashes being free to float on the wind in a place where he was happy. Your husband should respect whatever decision you make. Remind him that you will probably be deciding where HE will be buried someday - if he's cruel and insensitive HIS ashes might wind up at the county dump!

I think cremation is a wonderful idea! We have pet graves scattered around my parent's property, but most of them were wild barn cats and the like! For a beloved first pet like your dog, keeping him close in a place he loved is a perfect ending to his happy life with you. I hope your dog meets his final days with peace and dignity.

Not at all weird.

Am I odd about my dog?

It isn't weird at all. Some people care about their animals like they do their children. I have an 8 year old Yorkshire Terrier that I've had since she was 4 weeks old. She's my baby and I will be lost when she eventually dies.

Do what makes you feel good. It will be easier for you to deal with his passing when it happens.
