America's Next Top Model fashion question?

I was casually watching some re-runs of the show when Tyra told a girl... who was wearing blue jeans and two layered tank tops (the one underneath was white, the one on top was grey), "Take that grey thing off!"

When the young woman did Tyra told her she now looked like a lady.

Could someone explain to me please why a grey tank top would NOT make you look like a lady?

Or how slicking your hair back suddenly makes you more model like?

Its all about the ratings - dont take anything to heart that they say on these shows! Just because your a top model doesnt mean you know EVERYTHING about fashion hunny!

Slicking your hair back shows off your face and neck, which is especially important for new coming models.

Hope this helped!

With slicking your hair it simply makes models look neat, clean and sharp it also shows off nice face structures

With the grey shirt the whole modeling clothes is to make it look simple but good... maybe the shirt was making it look to contrast or complexed---I think i know what episode your talking about.... I personaly liked the whole layerd look she has going out so its ok. i like it

its because models are not supposed to layer...its not that it looks bad...but its that since models are supposed to be very think..so much fabric can overpower them...

Slicking you hair back shows your face %26amp; neck off more.

And not layering yur clothes makes you look more simple %26amp; model like.

For slicking the hair back in most countries (especially in Paris, France), hair slicked back is more sophisticated, and it won't take away anything from the clothes the models are wearing. Besides...at least the models would be able to see where they are walking and which way they are supposed to be going if their hair is slicked back.

As for the gray/white tank thing, both are basic, neutral colors. However, white is considered to be the MOST basic of all colors; that way, it's easier to add colorful accessories (ie: earrings, belt, heels) so that it looks more fashionable.

But...layering (the way Joanie did it) makes even the skinniest girls look like they packed on a few pounds in just one day.

I remember Tyra saying that to a few girls.

The best way I can explain is that models are a sort of blank canvas, as the attention should usually be on the product they are selling rather than them.

When they go on go-sees, the designers tell them to take jewelery/nail varnish off for the same reason.

The slicked back hair is partly because of the blank canvas thing too. Their face should be visible and they should look neat. It gives them a professional/sophisticated look.

Ps. America's NTM Rocks!
